On 7 and 8 March EFA welcomed its member parties in Brussels for the General Assembly.
During the recent General Assembly of the European Free Alliance (EFA), held on 7th and 8th of March, all motions proposed were unanimously approved, marking a significant step forward for the party’s agenda centered on self-determination and human rights.

The assembly commended member parties whose motions received unanimous approval, highlighting their dedication to advancing EFA’s principles across Europe. Key concerns addressed during the assembly included the pressing issue of repression in Catalonia, particularly amidst talks surrounding Madrid’s amnesty law and growing concerns over judicial irregularities. EFA emphasized the importance of EU support for the amnesty law and called for rigorous monitoring of Spanish judicial integrity to ensure justice prevails. EFA underscored its commitment to environmental protection by urging the EU Commission to include maritime transport in microplastics regulations, following the recent Galiza coast pellet accident. The party called for enhanced European coordination for marine disasters and emphasized the need for transparency in EU pollution efforts. Furthermore, EFA called upon the European Commission and Council to heed the plea for a robust European Islands’ agenda, paving the way for a comprehensive strategy to address the unique challenges faced by island communities.
On the agricultural front, EFA voiced support for the vital primary sector , urging assistance for farmers and fishermen, and emphasizing the importance of modernization, sustainability, and fair market access. Additionally, the party called on the EU Council to recognize Catalan, Galician, and Basque as official EU languages, highlighting the importance of protecting and promoting linguistic diversity within member states.
We also enphsize that we unanimously approved an urgency motion. We stand in solidarity with the people of Artsakh, opposing any expulsion from their ancestral lands and the erasure of their culture and history. You will not be forgotten. We stand united.
Finally, during the assembly, EFA presented its European Elections manifesto, featuring its Spitzenkandidaten tandem Raül Romeva and Maylis Roßberg. The event coincided with International Women’s Day, underscoring the party’s commitment to gender equality and women’s rights on the European stage.
The General Assembly concluded with a renewed determination to advocate for progressive policies that uphold the values of self-determination, human rights, sustainability, and linguistic diversity across Europe.
